Millfield’s aim is to provide individual pupils with the challenges and resources to achieve the very highest standards in academic, cultural and sporting fields within the framework of an international, co-educational boarding school.

There are currently 1250 pupils, 940 of whom board.Fifteen percent of the pupils are foreign nationals and over 50 different countries are represented.The Millfield mix is one of which we are very proud and entry does not depend solely on examination results, although places will be offered conditional upon a satisfactory performance at Common Entrance.All individuals are catered for and as they have different needs a variety of opportunities must be available to enable each one to achieve success.With its outstanding facilities, a staff : pupil ratio of 1 to 7.5, an average class size of just over 10, an extraordinary range of academic courses and the unrivalled strength of its extra curricular programme, Millfield strives to achieve the aim of giving every pupil the opportunity to gain confidence and self-esteem. It also seeks to move with the times whilst maintaining the important traditions of good manners, discipline and respect for others.

Currently there is a massive investment programme to upgrade the quality of our houses without increasing the overall number of our pupils. We are building eight new houses on our campus which will be ready for September 2002. By that time all 18 boarding houses will have been built new or completely refurbished during a four year period: this in addition to other major projects.
