Bearwood College is a co-educational boarding and day school, with 350 pupils from 11 to 18. The school is set in a beautiful rural estate, with acres of sports pitches, parkland and woods, including a 50-acre lake, golf course and riding stables. All pupils are positively encouraged to perform to their best, both academically and outside the classroom. The academic programme broadly follows and exceeds the National Curriculum, culminating in a full range of GCSEs and the choice of well over 20 A/Level subjects. Progress and endeavour are supervised on an individual basis. A generous staff/pupil ratio allows for real focus on each youngster. Pupils are all engaged in a wide selection of games – both team and individual sports – and other extra-curricular activities. Drama and Music feature importantly. Everyone is involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and there are many outdoor pursuits including mountain walking and climbing trips, skiing and snowboarding, offshore yachting, adventure training, CCF expeditions and many others. Many parents with hectic schedules appreciate Bearwood’s flexible approach to boarding, with occasional, weekly and termly boarding available as the need arises. The supervised homework sessions are also popular. Pastoral care is given a high priority at the College, with an extensive team of pastoral tutors. A bus runs from The Queens Public House, Blackwater at 0720 hrs with various stops en route and leaves College at 1730 hrs for the return journey. Entry to Bearwood College is normally at 11 (via our own Entry Assessment) and at 13 (via Common Entrance).
