LWC/Wellington pupils

· Continue working your way through the worksheet on ‘miracles’ handed out in today’s lesson. You should aim to complete the essay tonight and hand this in tomorrow morning.

RGS/Marlborough

· Using the information handed out this morning as well as on pages 8 & 9 of your Susan Grenfell textbook, tackle the following essay question:

‘The Scientific world-view is fundamentally in conflict with the religious world-view. Discuss.

F (SH) · Read again pages 100/101 of your Susan Grenfell textbook and answer in as much detail as possible questions 1,2 and 3 on page 100 as well as questions 6,7 and 8 on page 101. Remember to refer back to the question in each of your answers.
· If you have time why not tackle questions 4,5 ,9, 10 and 11 which ask you to ‘dig deeper’ into each of these miracles.
· This work should be word processed and handed in on Tuesday morning.
S (SH)

· Read pages 102/103 of your Susan Grenfell textbook which examines whether miracles still happen today?
· Then tackle the following two part essay:

B] Do you think miracles still happen today?

· Before you can even begin to answer this question you must first decide what a ‘miracle’ is
· Look up the word ‘miracle’ in the dictionary or consider the following definition on page 100 of your Susan Grenfell book – ‘a miracle is a happening that cannot be fully explained by natural events or human reason’. What other definitions can you find and do they differ from this one?
· Scholars generally agree that for an event to be considered a miracle it must contain 3 main features:

A] An event that breaks the laws of nature
B] The event has a purpose
C] the event may have a religious component e.g. involve God

· Once you have decided what a ‘miracle is you can now discuss whether you think miracles do happen in today’s world.
· Read pages 102/103 of your Susan Grenfell textbook here to provide you with examples.
· Remember to use the essay formula below:

You should be looking to write four paragraphs. First you should read the statement and make sure you understand it. Then decide whether you agree or disagree with the statement.

In the first paragraph it is a good idea to define your terms and define what you understand by the term ‘Miracle’.

In the second paragraph it is a good idea to give the opposite view from yours and write about what ‘some people think’.

In the third paragraph, begin by saying something like, ‘However, I think that………….and write about what you think. You will need to give examples and comment on them.

In the fourth paragraph, you should conclude by referring back to the question and then summarising your view briefly.
