Leighton Park School
Leighton Park is more than just a school. This is a community, one where academic achievement and pastoral care go hand in hand - and where pupils have time: time to learn, and time to reflect; time to grow and time to get to know each other and their teachers.
In short, you can have your cake and eat it! It is possible to have the highest academic standards - over 97% pass at A level for the past eight years - as well as the outstanding and distinctive quality of care, the development of individuality and a social conscience, for which Leighton Park is deservedly and equally well known.
The school is a vibrant and living 24/7 community. For 30% of the pupils (weekly and full boarders) it really is home from home. The 70% who are day pupils, are just as much a part of this, benefiting from the remarkable flexibility of the school day, and the residential experience of those around them.
Parents, pupils, staff and visitors often comment on the sense of peacefulness that characterises the school. That's not surprising, given the school's Quaker ethos and the importance placed, for example, on finding peaceful ways to resolve differences.
Pupils come to value the tolerance and diversity reflected in the community. Leighton Park offers us a vision of how the world might be, with young people (and older!) from so many different backgrounds, religions, races, nationalities and cultures all getting on well, because it's the natural thing to do. The inclusivity of the school is one of its real strengths.
Another is the environment, which encourages an awareness of our world and our responsibility for it. There is space to live and breathe here, without the hectic chasing that is often associated with the word school.
Here, young people mature into young adults, encouraged to explore new ideas, try new activities, develop new skills and make new, lasting friendships, often from around the world, since nearly twenty countries are represented among the twenty percent of the pupils who come from overseas.
Come and see for yourself.
